DIY Braided Bracelet: How to Make a Secure Clasp Loop (Step-by-Step Tutorial)
In this easy-to-follow guide, we will walk you through the process of weaving a classic clasp loop using a simple knotting technique.
What You’ll Need
Before you start, gather your materials:
-
3 Cords / Threads (Choose different colors for easier tracking during the process)
-
Tape or Clipboard (To hold your cords in place while working)
-
Scissors

Step-by-Step Weaving Process
Follow these steps and refer to the diagram above for a visual guide:
Step 1: Prepare Your Cords
Select three cords. For beginners, using distinct colors (e.g., a center core cord, a left working cord, and a right working cord) will make following the steps much easier.
Step 2: Braid and Fold
Braid a small section (about 1–1.5 inches) using all three cords. Once braided, fold this section in half to form the loop shape.
Step 3: First Half-Knot (Left Over Core)
Take the cord on the left and cross it over the center core strands. Take the right cord and bring it under the center core strands. Pass the ends through the loops to form the first half of a square knot.
Step 4: Secure the First Knot
Gently and evenly pull both side cords tight to secure the knot right at the base of your loop.
Step 5: Second Half-Knot (Right Over Core)
Now reverse the process: take the cord on the right and place it over the center core strands. Take the left cord and pass it under the center strands.
Step 6: Tighten to Lock
Pull both cords tightly again. This completes the full square knot anchor, leaving your loop neatly shaped and ready for the rest of your bracelet braid!
Crafting Tips for Success
-
Keep Tension Consistent: Pulling with equal pressure on both sides ensures your loop stays symmetrical.
-
Loop Size: Make sure your loop is big enough to fit the button or bead you plan to use as the closure, but not too loose.
